Experimental and Media Arts
Undergraduate Program
The primary goal of the Experimental and Media Arts area in the Department of Art is to help students develop innovative approaches to digital media and contemporary theory and art practice. Students draw from a number of study areas to define a personal and/or team-oriented practice. Current art practices in Experimental and Media Arts include: web design, sound art, digital cinema, 3D animation, immersive interactive installation, conceptual art, electronic music, and performance art. The area maintains collaborative relationships with other University departments and programs including Electronic Music, Dance, Theater, Journalism and Architecture.
Graduate Program
The three-year graduate program is limited to six students in residence. Each graduate student is provided with a studio space in the Regis Center for Art. Graduate students are expected to develop critical thinking, an understanding of the history of technology, and an awareness of their relationship to contemporary art theory and practice. Experimental and Media Arts graduate students are encouraged to engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue with students from other areas in the Department of Art and the broader University.
